College football transfer portal chaos is here again, even if just briefly.
The transfer portal opened again on Wednesday for the spring cycle. The window won't be open long compared to the winter, though, closing after just a week and a half on Friday, April 25.
Even before the transfer portal opened, the Oklahoma Sooners not only signed two new additions, but also already had three players expected to leave. And there will be even more movement.
Below is every OU player to enter the transfer portal during this spring, and the list will be updated as it grows.
Tracking Sooners in college football spring transfer portal
Davon Mitchell, a freshman tight end, was OU's first loss of the spring, and it came early on April 4.
Mitchell had a lot of promise as a former four-star recruit from the 2024 class, but he never even saw the field in his only year with the Sooners. It was then reported that Mitchell missed practices and team meetings during the spring, ultimately leading to OU parting ways with the young talent.
Regardless, Mitchell still has the attributes and hype to end up at another Power Four program. 247Sports ranks Mitchell as the top tight end available in the transfer portal.
This is the second time this offseason that Mykel Patterson-McDonald, a freshman defensive back, has been on this list.
First, he briefly entered the transfer portal during the winter, only to rejoin the team as a walk-on. It was a reported loophole to keep Patterson-McDonald with the program while not taking up one of the 105 roster spots college football programs are now limited to.
This time seems for real, though, as new GM Jim Nagy is making room for more additions with limited open slots. Patterson-McDonald announced his departure and said his goodbye to Sooner Nation just moments before the Crimson Combine.

Patterson-McDonald will land on his feet as a former four-star recruit with four years of eligibility left after never getting playing time at OU.
This was an expected departure from the Sooners' crowded running back room that got even fuller with the addition of Jaydn Ott from California.
Franklin's plans were reported hours before Ott's signing was announced, so this was likely a move to open up space. Ott presumably taking the top spot on the depth chart also pushed Franklin down as OU's No. 6 running back.
Franklin spent just one season at OU after transferring from Tennessee-Martin last year. He was an FCS Second-Team All-American and Walter Payton Award finalist in 2023 before making the jump to FBS.
Peter Schuh, a redshirt junior defensive back, was the first OU player to enter the transfer portal on the first day it was actually open.
Schuh was another casuallity of shrinking roster limits as a former undersized preferred walk-on from Montvale, New Jersey. He played in four games total in three years at OU.
The fact Schuh was even able to play Division-I football at all was pretty incredible. On top of being only 5-foot-8, he was also diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis, asthma, celiac disease and a heart defect as a child that he had to overcome to play college football.
After much consideration, I will be entering the transfer portal with 2-3 years of eligibility remaining. I am extremely thankful for my time at the University of Oklahoma. Thank you to Coach Venables for the opportunity to be a sooner. pic.twitter.com/VA5NXTMtET

For the third time, the transfer portal got one of OU's defensive backs. But, again, it was another player with very little playing time as a Sooner.
Jocelyn Malaska, a redshirt junior, entered the portal later Wednesday, according to multiple reports. Malaska is from nearby Bethany, Oklahoma, but started his career at Utah, where he spent spent two seasons before transferring to OU last year. He appeared in one game with OU.
Josh Aisosa, a redshirt freshman from nearby Sante Fe High School in Edmond, announced via X on Friday that he plans on entering the transfer portal. He was a three-star recruit from the 2024 class and never played a snap with OU while redshirting last year.
I plan to enter the transfer portal with 4 years of eligibility left. Thank you Oklahoma for the experiences this past year and thank you to the coaches for giving me the opportunity to be here. For more information my DMs are open. pic.twitter.com/1mmUxShF77

This was certainly a bombshell for Sooner Nation.
David Stone is a former five-star recruit who played in every game last season as a freshman. He had six tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack in his first season of college football.
Stone could become the best player available in the transfer portal this spring, and is certainly the best defensive player available.
