General manager Jim Nagy and the Oklahoma Sooners started their week on a Transfer Portal heater.

According to On3's Hayes Fawcett on Monday, Oregon cornerback Dakoda Fields committed to the Sooners before his visit to Norman was even scheduled to be over. Fields became the Sooners' sixth portal commitment of the day on Monday and seventh total after Florida tight end Hayden Hansen was the first domino of the cycle to fall on Sunday.

Oregon transfer CB Dakoda Fields commits to Sooners

Adam Gorney of Rivals reported on Friday that Fields was expected to get to Oklahoma on Sunday for a visit before leaving on Tuesday. That was ultimately Field's only reported visit after being an expected midseason addition to the portal, and he made his decision before it was even over.

Fields appeared in just three games in two years at Oregon. He was injured all of 2024, then played in the first three games this season and recorded a tackle before not seeing the field again and deciding to head to the portal. He signed with Oregon as a consensus four-star recruit in the 2024 class out of Junipero Serra High School in California. According to the 247Sports Composite, Fields was the No. 13 corner in his class and No. 90 overall prospect.

Fields will likely be a needed depth piece for the Sooners at cornerback with starters Eli Bowen and Courtland Guillory back but almost no reinforcements behind them. The Sooners lost four cornerbacks to the portal. With three starts in 2024, Jacobe Johnson is the only other corner on the roster will any real experience.

As a promising redshirt freshman, Fields will not only be a depth the Sooners need, but could also develop into a lot more in Brent Venables' defense.

Fields was the Sooners' seventh portal addition so far, but the first on the defensive side of the ball and sixth of the day.

Monday started with a commitment in the morning from former Western Kentucky and Virginia Tech offensive lineman Caleb Nitta. The O-line then got another boost from Arkansas transfer E’Marion Harris. The offense also gained two weapons from Colorado State in running back Lloyd Avant and tight end Rocky Beers. The headliner of the day, though, was Virginia transfer wide receiver Trell Harris.

And it's just been four days.
