Oklahoma fans have haunting memories of multiple wide receivers heading to the Transfer Portal together, but Sooner Nation can be assured that this is not 2025.
The Sooners are now up to seven wide receivers entering the portal after three reported exits within 24 hours, which surpassed the total that left during OU's portal exodus at the position last year. However, whether it's because of the caliber of players or what the Sooners already gained from the portal or just that fans are used to the transfer ways now, this doesn't seem like near the blow it was last year.
7 Oklahoma receivers entering Transfer Portal
After Zion Kearney entered the portal late Monday night, receivers Ivan Carreon and Javonnie Gibson reportedly followed him on Tuesday. KJ Daniels, Josiah Martin and Jakeb Snyder were also already in the portal, and it had been known since October that Jayden Gibson would transfer once he actually could.
Of the seven, only Javonnie Gibson, Carreon and Kearney even caught a pass this season, and that trio combined for 22 receptions, with Gibson responsible for 18 of those. Although Carreon and Kearney have promise as sophomores, Gibson was likely the biggest immediate loss for 2026.
Gibson just got to Oklahoma this time last year after transferring from Arkansas-Pine Bluff, where he was a second-team FCS All-American in 2024. There was a lot of buzz about Gibson during spring practices, but then he broke his leg and had to miss the Sooners' first four games to delay his debut. Gibson ultimately caught 18 passes for 199 yards and a touchdown as a Sooner.
To replace those losses, the Sooners have landed a pair of top-20 transfer receivers already in Virginia's Trell Harris and Parker Livingstone from Texas. Obviously six dwarfs two, but OU general manager Jim Nagy found a lot more quality with those additions and more is likely on the way.
When the Sooners lost six receivers to the portal last year, Nagy wasn't around yet to replenish the position, plus OU was coming off a 6-7 season with an abysmal passing offense. In 2026, with Nagy running the show after the Sooners just made the College Football Playoff and are likely returning quarterback John Mateer, this could be OU's chance to actually recover from 2025's portal losses and improve instead of just replace.
