As news broke that Sacramento State had hired Shaquille O'Neal as its men's basketball general manager, the Oklahoma Sooners were reaping the benefits of their own new assistant GM, Trae Young.
Alabama transfer forward Derrion Reid announced via Instagram on Monday evening that he committed to the Sooners out of the transfer portal. Reid visited Norman last week before becoming the Sooners' fourth portal addition since the 2024-25 college basketball season ended.

Porter Moser, Trae Young land former 5-star forward from transfer portal
Reid entered the transfer portal after just one season at Alabama, during which he missed 13 games because of an injury. In 24 games and three starts as a frosh, Reid averaged six points and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 45% from the field.
From Grovetown, Georgia, Reid signed with the Crimson Tide last year as a five-star recruit and a McDonald's All-American. ESPN and On3 ranked him as the 11th-best recruit in the 2024 class. Reid was the fourth-highest rated recruit Alabama had ever landed, according to 247Sports.
Reid, listed at 6-foot-8, will provide much-needed size for the Sooners. Better yet, he also already has experience playing down low in the physical SEC. The Sooners struggled mightily in the paint last season in conference play.
The Sooners already needed more help at the post, then lost six big men from last season's roster. Starting forwards Jalon Moore and Sam Godwin exhausted their eligibility, as well as Glenn Taylor Jr. Forwards Luke Northweather, Jacolb Fredson-Cole and Yaya Keita then entered the transfer portal.
Since, the Sooners have added Reid and Notre Dame transfer Tae Davis, who was OU's first commitment out of the portal. OU will also add incoming freshmen Kai Rogers (6-foot-10), Andreas Holst (6-foot-11) and Alec Blair (6-foot-6).
Rogers and Blair are both four-star recruits, while three of OU's four transfer additions are ranked in the top 50, according to 247Sports. The only one not is Davis at No. 66. Reid is ranked at No. 37, then Xzayvier Brown at No. 33 and Nijel Pack at No. 42.
The Sooners still have one roster spot left to fill with the transfer portal now closed for college basketball.
