Lane Johnson in 99 Club

Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman and OU great Lane Johnson joined the elite Madden 99 Club with a 99 overall rating in the Madden NFL 26 video game, which will release on Aug. 14. Fellow 99 Club member Saquon Barkley, who is Johnson's teammate and the cover athlete, presented Johnson with his "99" chain that new members of the club get.

Only seven players were given a 99 overall rating, the highest possible, for the launch of Madden NFL 26. Johnson was also just the second former Sooner to join the club since it was created ahead of Madden NFL 2020. Fellow offensive lineman Trent Williams was the first and has earned the honor twice.

Joe Mixon among NFL Top 100

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon became the second former Sooner to appear in the newest NFL Top 100 as the No. 58 player in the league heading into the 2025 season. Mixon had been off the list the past two years, but had a breakout season in his first year with the Texans.

Mixon made his second Pro Bowl last season after rushing for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Kansas City Chiefs center Creed Humphrey was the first former OU player to be on the NFL Top 100 at No. 93.

OU softball loses pitcher

Right-handed pitcher Paytn Monticelli announced she will transfer from OU to LSU in what was basically a Transfer Portal trade between the two teams. Last month, pitcher Sydney Berzon transferred to OU from LSU as the No. 1 player available in the portal. The Sooners now have seven pitchers on their expected 2026 roster.

Monticelli spent two seasons at Oklahoma after transferring from Wisconsin in 2023. She had 16 appearances this past season, throwing 21.1 innings with a 2-0 record and 3.94 ERA.
