The Oklahoma Sooners got a new ace.
LSU transfer pitcher Sydney Berzon announced via Instagram on Friday that she committed to OU for her final year of eligibility. This continued Patty Gasso's recent trend of using the transfer portal to get the Sooners an experienced pitcher that can immediately step in as an ace.
"Norman, here I come," Berzon posted. "I am beyond grateful and excited for this opportunity!"
Gasso landed this commitment just four days after the Sooners were eliminated by Texas Tech in the semifinals of the Women's College World Series.

Berzon was the No. 1 overall player available in the transfer portal, according to On3. I also recently listed five transfer pitchers OU should pursue and Berzon topped the list. A pitcher to replace Sam Landry, who was also a one-and-done transfer, seemed to be OU's top priority in the portal.
A three-year starter for the Tigers, Berzon will get to Norman already decorated as a two-time All-American. She earned NFCA Second-Team All-American honors in 2024 and NFCA Third-Team All-American recognition in 2023.
Berzon has a career 2.02 ERA and 52-25 record in 61 starts. Fifty of those starts were complete games. She also has nine career saves.
This past season, Berzon posted a career-worst 2.46 ERA while going 18-8 in 22 starts. Berzon was at her best as a sophomore in 2024 with a 1.78 ERA and 20-9 record. This season was the first time she ever had an ERA above 2.00.
Berzon was the Sooners' first portal addition so far in this young offseason. They've also lost four players, including catcher Corri Hicks, outfielder Maya Bland, outfielder Hannah Coor and infielder Kadey Lee McKay.
In addition to the No. 1 transfer, the Sooners also have the top 2025 high school signing class coming to Norman with five new players.
