OU throttles Oklahoma State in Bedlam baseball

Almost a week after the Oklahoma softball team run-ruled Oklahoma State on the softball diamond, the OU baseball team on Tuesday night hammered the Cowboys 11-1 in Stillwater for the only scheduled Bedlam of the college baseball season.

The No. 18 Sooners got in control early with five runs in the first inning. Other than both teams scoring a run apiece in the fourth, the Cowboys then held OU at bay until the Sooners exploded for another five runs in the eighth inning to finish the run-rule victory.

It was a shared effort for OU on the mound, but James Hitt ultimately got the win. Jaden Barfield started and pitched two innings before Reid Hensley, who also threw a pair of innings, came in.

Hitt took over in the fifth, tossing three innings while not giving up a hit. Closer Dylan Crooks then finished things off.

Next, the Sooners (25-10) will head to Missouri for another three-game SEC series that will start on Thursday.

Transfer portal opens for spring cycle

Hello, old friend.

The transfer portal opened for the second time this offseason on Wednesday and will be open until April 25. Even before it officially opened, the Sooners already lost three players in tight end Davon Mitchell, defensive back Mykel Patterson-McDonald and running back Sam Franklin.

The Sooners are expected to be big-time buyers during this spring cycle, so in order to stay at their 105-player roster limit, expect more OU players to hit the portal.

Sooners already add two from transfer portal

Speaking of being big spenders, new general manager Jim Nagy and the Sooners didn't even wait until Wednesday to start buying talent.

OU on Tuesday evening announced two signees from the transfer portal. The first addition was Stanford offensive lineman Jake Maikkula, who started 11 games last season as a versatile interior offensive lineman.

Next was California graduate transfer Jaydn Ott, who was the No. 1 running back available in the transfer portal.
