You could probably hear the collective sigh of relief that came from Norman if you were listening close enough.
Daniel Odom, the Oklahoma Sooners' only committed wide receiver from the 2026 class, posted via X on Thursday that he is immediately shutting down his recruitment and reassured his commitment to the Sooners after a lot of worry from Sooner Nation that he would eventually flip and put OU in a mess.
"This is one of the toughest decisions I have had to make in my life," Odom wrote. "With that being said, I am only one person & I can only choose one school. After much prayer & consideration I have decided that I will not be choosing another university.
"Effective immediately, I'm shutting down down my recruitment & 100% committed to Oklahoma."

Odom reassures commitment to Sooners
Odom, listed at 6-foot-1, committed to the Sooners on Jan. 28 as a consensus four-star recruit from St. John Bosco in California. According to the 247Sports Composite, he's the No. 41 receiver in the 2026 class and is tied as the second-highest-rated commit the Sooners have so far based on 247Sports' ratings.
Just two days before Odom's announcement, reports surfaced that Odom was planning to visit Colorado this upcoming season, which now apparently will not happen. He also took official visits to Florida State and Washington this summer, as well as to Norman on June 20 during OU's ChampU BBQ recruiting event.
There's been worry surrounding Odom's commitment to the Sooners for months now. In March, when it was initially reported that Odom would visit Florida State and Washington, Odom told Rivals' Sam Spiegelman, "I’m opening my eyes to everybody because there are great opportunities."
The likelihood of Odom changing his mind seemed even more likely when quarterback Jaden O'Neal flipped his commitment from OU to Florida State last month. Odom and O'Neal were childhood friends and grew up playing with each other, so it was expected that O'Neal was a major factor in getting Odom to OU.
However, after looking like the saga would ultimately end with Odom flipping before signing day, he nipped that in the bud before his senior season even kicked off as Brent Venables & Co. managed to land the same player twice.
