The Oklahoma Sooners could go from possibly getting two quarterbacks from the 2026 class to zero.
On3 reported Monday that OU’s 2026 quarterback commit Jaden O’Neal is visiting Georgia on Monday. O’Neal announced an offer from the Bulldogs on Jan. 28.
OU coach Brent Venables in the past had a rule that if a commit visited a different school, then he considered them de-committed. It seems like that rule has changed recently, though, especially after 2025 top signee Michael Fasusi visited rival Texas up until the last-minute, even after pledging to the Sooners.
O’Neal is a consensus four-star recruit originally from California who has been committed to the Sooners since last June.
The Sooners getting O’Neal to Norman seemed like a lock until recently after OU offered another 2026 quarterback in four-star Bowe Bentley from Celina High School in Texas.
Bentley’s stock has just recently skyrocketed after a spectacular junior season last year. After an influx of offers, Bentley scheduled five visits during the month of March to OU, LSU, Ohio State, Florida State and Georgia Tech.
Bentley’s college tour started with a stop in Oklahoma this past weekend. According to Chad Simmons of On3, the visit went really well and the Sooners left another good impression on Bentley, who also visited Norman last month.
Even with the Sooners also pursuing Bentley, O’Neal switching allegiances would still be a shock. He’s reassured his commitment several times since OU offered Bentley.
O’Neal also just recently moved to the state from California and transferred to Mustang High School in Oklahoma for his senior season, further showing he’s still planning on being a Sooner.
However, if Venables and new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle do push O’Neal away without also securing Bentley, that would be quite the recruiting blunder while pursuing two prospects, who based on recruiting rankings, aren’t separated by much.
The Sooners cannot afford missing out on their top quarterback target in back-to-back classes. Kevin Sperry was the longest-tenured commit of OU's 2025 recruiting class before flipping to Florida State just weeks before Early National Signing Day. Like O'Neal, Sperry also transferred and played a season at an Oklahoma high school as a junior.
