As attention starts to shift already toward the 2028 recruiting class, the Oklahoma Sooners have a clear shot at the prospect who has already proven to be one of the best that the class will have to offer.

OU target edge rusher Jalanie George on Monday debuted as a five-star recruit and No. 2 overall prospect in Rivals' initial Rivals300 rankings for the 2028 class, and the Sooners not only already have an offer extended to George, but a high school teammate already committed to help recruit on a daily basis.

Sooners have advantage that could make Jalanie George a generational commit

Mikyal Davis, a three-star cornerback, is already part of the Sooners' No. 1 2027 recruiting class and could be a key piece in OU's next 2028 group getting a headstart in being just as loaded. Davis and George play on the same side of the ball for what's a stacked defense at Desert Edge High School in Goodyear, Arizona.

The Sooners have offered nearly half of Desert Edge's defense, including Davis, George, defensive back Nekhi Lambeth, defensive back Jaelyn Easterling-Flores and defensive lineman Yahzeen Zion. But none seem to have the level of potential as George, though.

According to the 247Sports Composite, George, listed at 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds as a sophomore, is the No. 1 prospect by class, position and state. He has an outstanding rating of 0.9996, which would tie George with running back Adrian Peterson as OU's highest-rated commit ever based on 247Sports.

George already has offers from Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Vanderbilt and more. That battle will only get more contested as George gets further into his recruitment process. According to Rivals, the only unofficial visit he has scheduled so far is to Ole Miss this weekend, but Davis will surely drag his teammate to Norman with him at some point.

It's still extremely early in building the 2028 class, so the Sooners have only one commitment so far in running back Micah Rhodes, who was ranked as the No. 72 overall prospect in the new Rivals300.
