The Oklahoma Sooners are closing in on a massive recruit, both figuratively and literally.

Hayes Fawcett of On3 reported that offensive tackle Deacon Schmitt is down to his final eight college choices. His top eight includes OU, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Nebraska, Colorado, Ohio State and USC.

He also had reported offers from Auburn, Kansas State, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington, Washington State and more.

Washington State offered Schmitt last January when new OU offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle was still with the Cougars. The Sooners then extended an offer in June.

Schmitt already has an official visit scheduled to Oklahoma, as well as to Nebraska and Tennessee.

Every major recruiting service but 247Sports has given Schmitt four stars. On3 is the highest on Schmitt, ranking him as the 24th-best offensive tackle in the 2026 class.

Schmitt is already listed at 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds as a junior at Windsor High School in Colorado. Every major recruiting service ranks him as a top-3 overall prospect in the state of Colorado.

The Sooners already have one committed offensive lineman from the 2026 class in three-star interior offensive lineman Will Conroy, who pledged in December. OU's 2026 class so far consists of all offensive players with four-star quarterback Jaden O'Neal, four-star wide receiver Daniel Odom and four-star tight end Ryder Mix.

OU has also recently made the top groups for several top 2026 recruits, including five-star athlete Brandon Arrington, four-star wide receiver Aljour Miles, four-star linebacker Talanoa Ili and No. 1 Oklahoma prospect Mason James.
