Another Kolar brother will be leaving Norman to play college football somewhere else.
Rivals' Sam Spiegelman broke the news Tuesday that three-star tight end Ben Kolar from just down the road at Norman North High School will head all the way to the West Coast after committing to Stanford over a top group that also included the hometown Oklahoma Sooners, Tennessee and Auburn.
Kolar made his decision after just visiting Stanford over the weekend, but is scheduled for an official visit to OU this weekend. He also has planned trips to Tennessee on June 12 and Auburn on June 19.
“I love their history in consistently producing NFL tight ends," Kolar told Spiegelman said.
Oklahoma loses TE target Ben Kolar to Stanford in recruiting twist
All signs pointed toward Kolar being a Sooner. OU is not only just down the road, but new tight ends coach Jason Witten, an NFL great, hadn't missed on a serious target yet. Witten was the key piece in the Sooners rising to the top of Kolar's list although they offered him last June, even before Witten replaced Joe Jon Finley in the role.
Kolar had told SoonerScoop's Parker Thune just last month that he would likely announce his decision before making his scheduled visits. Considering he has taken seven reported visits to OU, according to Rivals, that notion seemed to benefit the Sooners.
In the end, like his brothers, Kolar will not be a Sooner. Unlike them, though, he actually had an offer on the table to stay home. His oldest brother, John, was a quarterback who went to Oklahoma State before transferring and joining the middle brother, Charlie, at Iowa State. Charlie was a big miss by the Sooners as the local product is playing in the NFL today as a tight end after a stellar college career with the Cyclones. All came from Norman North High School.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Kolar, listed at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, is the No. 27 tight end in the 2027 class and No. 11 prospect in the state. Last season as a junior, he caught 44 passes for 622 yards and eight touchdowns from quarterback Nash Henry, who is also another hometown product from the 2028 class that the Sooners shouldn't let out of Norman.

Kolar's other offers included Arizona State, Arkansas, Illinois, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, Penn State, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Utah, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin and more.
The Sooners' No. 1 2027 recruiting class already includes Seneca Driver, who is a consensus top-3 tight end in the class and top-50 overall player. If OU still wants to add another tight end to the group, there's no reason to doubt Witten will still get it done.
