It's looking like new Oklahoma tight ends coach Jason Witten could soon land another commit for the Sooners, and this time he didn't have to go far.
SoonerScoop's Parker Thune reported on Tuesday that Ben Kolar, a 2027 tight end from just down the road at Norman North High School, has set multiple official visits, including to OU on June 3, as he nears a decision. Kolar's other trips include to Stanford (May 29), Tennessee (June 11) and Auburn (June 19).
Oklahoma looking like favorite for Ben Kolar with visit set
However, even though Kolar doesn't visit the Sooners until next month, he hinted to Thune that a decision could still come even sooner. Considering how familiar he already is with his hometown university and that the Sooners have recently rose to the top of his list thanks to Witten, an early commitment should go in the Sooners' favor. June will be Kolar's seventh reported visit to OU, according to Rivals.
Kolar will be the third brother from his family to play college football at the Power Four level, and although the other two also came from Norman, he's the first to even get a chance to be a Sooner. The oldest, John, was a quarterback who went to Oklahoma State before transferring to Iowa State. Charlie was also a tight end and was a huge whiff by OU as he became a star at Iowa State and emerged as fourth-round NFL Draft pick and plays for the Los Angeles Chargers today.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Kolar, listed at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, is the No. 26 tight end in the 2027 class as a three-star recruit with other offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Illinois, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, Penn State, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Utah, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin and more.
Last season for Norman North High School, where he plays with 2028 four-star quarterback Nash Henry, Kolar caught 44 passes from Henry for 622 yards and eight touchdowns.

Kolar would be the second tight end added to the Sooners' 2027 class after four-star Seneca Driver, who is a consensus top-3 prospect at the position and was the first high school commit Witten landed as OU's tight ends coach.
