Greg Sankey is the biggest loser from Texas A&M choking in the NCAA tournament

Tell us again why Oklahoma wasn't the No. 1 overall seed?

And just like that, the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Softball Championship is going to be watching the rest of the tourney from home. Brutal, just brutal, as the Texas A&M Aggies indeed have been eliminated thanks to Liberty pulling off a stunner.

From our chair, though, as we've said multiple times, the Aggies had no business being the No. 1 overall seed. That's right, that honor belonged to Patty Gasso and the Oklahoma Sooners. A big reason why the Aggies topped Oklahoma there?

Well, it was because due to inclement weather and Greg Sankey not having a contingency plan in place, the SEC Softball Tournament title game was canceled, with the Aggies and Sooners being named co-champs. Had the game taken place, we're confident Oklahoma would have won, making the seeding issue a non-story. Instead, Sankey's mess led to Texas A&M being the top contenders, only to lose to Liberty. Come on.

Greg Sankey's SEC Softball Tournament gaffe continues to look worse

Meanwhile for the Sooners, things have gone according to plan thus far, with Oklahoma reaching Super Regionals. Oh and by the way, this is the 15th year in a row Oklahoma has reached this stage, marking the longest streak for all Division-I teams.

Oklahoma has also won the title four years in a row and the Sooners are looking to be in great shape to win things for a fifth straight campaign. We hate to keep piling on Sankey for what happened in the SEC tournament, but man, the way the Aggies bowed out of things this spring is just a bad look overall and it makes the Oklahoma snub even worse.

Gasso and her players of course aren't going to have any ill will toward Sankey and the SEC over what happened. In their eyes, what's done is done and they've got another natty to focus on. However, the way Texas A&M disappointed was pretty embarrassing and Sooners fans can't help but keep being disappointed with the commish. All will be forgotten if Oklahoma can lift the trophy high into the sky again, but this is just another reminder that the Sooners were always the better team over the Aggies.
