Once again, Oklahoma offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle's early eye for quarterback talent paid off for the Sooners.

Collin Kennedy of 247Sports reported on Saturday that OU's top 2027 QB target, Jamison Roberts, committed to the Sooners while in Norman for OU's Future Freaks Junior Day. OU was one of the first major programs to offer Robinson before his recruitment recently exploded, which included an upgrade from three stars to four stars from Rivals.

Jamison Roberts commits to Sooners

When the Sooners offered Roberts back in November, he was still a consensus three-star recruit and his only other Power Four offers were from in-state Auburn, Duke, Northwestern and Syracuse. Since, though, his offer list had grown to also include Georgia, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Iowa State, Kentucky, Arkansas, Maryland, Iowa, Baylor, Colorado, West Virginia and Florida. He had already announced a top 8 that included OU, Ole Miss, Auburn, Arkansas, Duke, Northwestern, Iowa and Kentucky.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Roberts, listed at 6-foot-2, is the No. 22 QB in the 2027 class and No. 15 overall player in the state of Alabama out of Saraland High School. His recruiting ratings got a major boost just last week when Rivals' latest update had Roberts debut in the Rivals 300 at No. 250 and jolted him to be the No. 18 quarterback in the class. He also jumped Bama commit Trent Seaborn to be considered the top QB prospect in the state.

Roberts was a late bloomer after not getting a starting job until last season as a junior. He sat behind future Texas quarterback KJ Lacey before finally getting the nod.

In his first season as QB1 in 2025, Roberts led his team to a 13-1 record while passing for 3,370 yards and 37 touchdowns with five interceptions. He also rushed for 641 yards and 21 scores for 58 total trips to the end zone.

That progression mirrors OU's 2026 QB Bowe Bentley, who Arbuckle also offered after just one season as a starter before he shot up recruiting rankings and was a top-5 QB by the time he signed in December.

Roberts was the 15th addition to what was already the top class in the country by 247Sports and Rivals. Based on the 247Sports Composite, Roberts is the fifth-highest rated offensive player in the group behind offensive linemen Cooper Hackett and Kaeden Penny, wide receiver Demare Dezeurn, and running back Keldrid Ben, who has also climbed recruiting rankings since committing to OU. That gives Roberts an insane amount of weapons around him to succeed whether he exceeds expectations or not.

That loaded 2027 class is expected to grow even more this weekend during OU's Future Freaks Junior Day on Saturday.
