Despite a stagnant offense in 2025, the Oklahoma Sooners still made it to the College Football Playoff thanks to an elite defense that was led by head coach Brent Venables. If the defense is on par in 2026 and countered with an offense that reaches the next level, then the Sooners would have what it takes, not just to get back to the playoff, but finally get past the first round.
Entering Year 2 under offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, the Sooners return loads of talent on that side of the ball, including quarterback John Mateer, top receiver Isaiah Sategna III, four of five starting offensive linemen, and the backfield duo of Tory Blaylock and Xavier Robinson. However, it could be some new faces from the Transfer Portal that ultimately transcend the Sooners' offense.
OU newcomers that will make the biggest impact on offense
We saw flashes early on in 2025 of what a tight end can do in Arbuckle's system. Jaren Kanak, who was playing the position for the first time after converting from linebacker, finished with 44 catches for 533 yards but no touchdowns. It's also worth noting that Kanak was listed at 6-foot-2.
The tight end room has been completely revamped since the season ended with a new tight ends coach in future Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Witten and four additions from the portal, including Rocky Beers, who's listed at 6-foot-5. Last season at Colorado State, Beers broke a single-season tight end program record with seven TDs, as well as 31 receptions for 388 yards.
Beers, and really every other TE added from the portal, brings something the Sooners didn't have at all on their roster in 2025. Beers could emerge as one of Mateer's favorite red-zone targets while also being able to contribute blocking in the run game thanks to his size and experience.
It's almost as if the Sooners didn't just retain Sategna, but also added another one with Trell Harris from Virginia. Harris was Third-Team All-ACC in 2025 with 59 receptions, 847 yards and five touchdowns. Like Sategna, Harris also does all his damage thanks to his speed with 363 yards after the catch last season as he also averaged 14.4 yards a reception.
Most of Harris' big plays, though, came deep after blowing past secondaries, while Sategna tended to turn short passes into long gains. Adding Harris in the mix will give opposing secondaries fits next season, and it's also not unreasonable to believe that Harris is even more talented than Sategna, who was Second-Team All-SEC.

Yet another new weapon for Mateer, and Parker Livingstone, from Texas, has what OU fans have been begging for for years at wide receiver: size.
Livingstone is listed at 6-foot-4, but he also has the speed to consistently get past secondaries. In his lone season of college football action as a redshirt freshman in 2025, Livingstone had 29 catches for 516 yards and six touchdowns, which was second on the team for the Longhorns.
Harris and Sategna add speed to the Sooners' passing game. Beers and every other tight end from the portal added more size. Livingstone brings both, and best of all, he's not just a rental with three years of eligibility left. It would be no surprise if Livingstone breaks out as the Sooners' top receiver in 2026.
