The Oklahoma Sooners still have roster spots to fill before the 2026-27 men's college basketball season, but head coach Porter Moser likely made his final major addition on Monday and found his last needed starter in former G-League player Akoldah Gak. With that, what the Sooners' starting lineup will likely look like when they take the court again next season has become clear.
Although he was already on the roster, point guard Xzayvier Brown was probably the Sooners' biggest recruiting win of the offseason keeping him in Norman for his final season. After transferring from Saint Joseph's last year, Brown started all 37 games for the Sooners while averaging 15.4 points, 3.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds a game in 2025-26.
Brown became the highest returning scorer in the Moser era at OU, and now has a year in the system to build on and lead next year's Sooners.
Considering Akoldah Gak isn't a transfer, Pop Isaacs was the Sooners' biggest portal get after most recently being at Texas A&M last season with previous stops at Creighton and Texas Tech. He will slide right into the starting lineup with 100 games worth of experience already under his belt with 74 starts.
Isaacs is a career 34.9% three-point shooter, so immediately adds experience and a shooter the Sooners need in the lineup. He could be OU's weapon for an NCAA Tournament run.
Khani Rooths, listed at 6-foot-10, was the Sooners' first commit from the portal after spending his first two seasons at Louisville, where he appeared in 66 games total and made two starts last season. He averaged 5.3 points, while shooting 44.9% from the field, and 4.3 rebounds as a sophomore, and has the potential for a breakout season as a junior.
Forward Derrion Reid was another massive retention for Moser after the Sooners got him to Norman last year from Alabama. As a sophomore in his first season at OU, Reid started every game while averaging 11.7 points and 4.4 rebounds. He's a player with a ton of upside that should reach a new level next season.
Akoldah Gak, listed at 6-foot-11, should be the best big man Moser has had yet at OU as the Sooners have been disappointing at center overall under Moser. Originally from Australia, where he also played three years of pro ball, Gak most recently played in the NBA G League for two seasons. Last season for the Capital City Go-Go, the Washington Wizards' affiliate, Gak averaged 7.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 33 games.
There's a chance Gak could be the star of the Sooners next season as a dominant force in the point that also has the versatility to shoot from beyond the arc. He's definitely an experiment, but one with more reward than risk.
