It seems maybe his peers already forgot how good San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams really is.

Williams was the fourth former Oklahoma Sooner to be on the 2025 NFL Top 100 Players list at No. 45. He was all the way at No. 7 last year, but then missed the last several weeks of last season because of an injury, which presumably prompted the drop in the rankings, which is voted on by NFL players.

49ers quarterback Brock Purdy certainly remembered how valuable his left tackle is, immediately referring to Williams as a future Hall of Famer in a video the NFL released.

"Every time I step out on the field with Trent, I always know my left side is good," Purdy said. "Just the mindset that he has going into every game. He goes out and just completely dominates the guy in front of him in the run game, pass game.

"He makes some NFL guys look like they're in high school."

Williams is entering a remarkable 16th season in the NFL and is a lock to be in the Hall of Fame once he finally retires. He's an 11-time Pro Bowler and was voted First-Team All-Pro three years in a row in 2021-23.

Kansas City Chiefs center Creed Humphrey was the first former OU player to pop up on the NFL Top 100 Players, debuting at No. 93. Then it was Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon at No. 58. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield started the top half of the list at No. 50.

And there should still be even more Sooners to appear in the top 100, including Jalen Hurts, CeeDee Lamb and Lane Johnson. The top 10 will be announced on Sept. 1, and all three of those players have a chance to be that high on the list.
