Sooner Nation was just trying to enjoy some baseball and softball wins Friday night when the Oklahoma Sooners finally suffered their first real loss of the week.

In a bombshell to start the weekend, Pete Nakos of On3 reported that OU freshman defensive tackle David Stone will enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining.

Stone was OU's seventh loss this spring, but none of the others made Sooner Nation bat an eye. Stone, though, was the Sooners' first massive loss since the transfer portal opened for the spring on Wednesday.

Sooners lose former 5-star recruit to transfer portal

Stone is a former consensus five-star recruit from the 2024 class. He was the second-best defensive tackle in his class, according to the 247Sports Composite, and No. 9 overall player.

With that hype, Stone immediately got playing time as a freshman for the Sooners. He appeared in all 13 games last season while tallying six tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack.

Now looking back, there might have been signs that Stone might be leaving OU, but when the news broke Friday night, it was a stunner for Sooner Nation and around college football.

Now let the processing begin, at least for those who aren't numb to transfer portal drama yet, including the OU locker room.

The Sooners have lost seven players so far this spring. Stone was the first player that actually contributed or even got playing time last season, though. The transfer portal closes on Friday and won't open again until after the football season in December.
