After an easy going start to the spring transfer portal cycle so far for the Oklahoma Sooners, a bombshell dropped Friday night.
Pete Nakos of On3 reported that OU defensive tackle David Stone, a freshman, is planning to enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining. He's OU's seventh loss of this cycle, but the first player that actually contributed last season.
Stone could immediately become the top player available in the transfer portal this spring. He's certainly the best defensive player available.

Former 5-star defensive tackle David Stone entering transfer portal
Originally from Del City, Oklahoma, Stone is a former consensus five-star recruit from the 2024 class and On3 even rated him as a five-star+ prospect out of national powerhouse IMG Academy in Florida. He was the second-best defensive tackle in his class, according to the 247Sports Composite, and No. 9 overall player.
Stone was also an Under Armour All-American and MaxPreps First-Team All-American in 2023.
With the size at 6-foot-3 and 313 pounds, Stone immediately got playing time on the defensive line as a freshman last season with the Sooners, even during physical SEC play. He didn't make a start but appeared in all 13 games.
Stone recorded six tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack in his first season of college football.
As a top recruit, Stone's final six school choices included Miami, Florida, Oregon, Michigan State and Texas A&M before ultimately choosing the Sooners. However, because of SEC transfer rules, Stone will not be able to transfer to another program in the conference.
Stone on Tuesday, the day before the transfer portal opened, posted on X a picture of when he made his college decision. In hindsight, that might have been a hint at what was to come, plus the fact the Sooners were reportedly after a defensive tackle in the portal.

Stone is unquestionably a massive loss for the Sooners and does not compare to their other losses so far this spring.
