SEC rivals are doing all they can to steal Kamieon Compton-Nero out of Oklahoma

Top 2028 in-state recruit Kamieon Compton-Nero seems destined to stay home in the Sooner State, but other SEC powers are doing all they can to mess with destiny.

Oklahoma has been favored for some time to ultimately land Compton-Nero, who's from Owasso High School, but nothing is official yet and other programs haven't stopped trying. The Sooners' SEC rivals aren't only still after Compton-Nero, but they're also making great impressions as OU struggles at 2-2.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Compton-Nero is the top athlete in the 2028 class as the No. 45 overall player and four-star recruit. He's also the best prospect in the state of Oklahoma. He transferred across town to Owasso High School to play in the state's largest football classification for his junior campaign.

Last season as a sophomore for Rejoice Christian School, he totaled 3,335 yards and 49 touchdowns as a quarterback. He'll likely play safety for the Sooners, though, as a star on both sides of the ball. Defensively, he recorded 95 tackles and five interceptions, three of which he returned for a score.

Alabama, Ole Miss and other powerhouses are still after Kamieon Compton-Nero

Maybe Compton-Nero is a good luck charm, because every time he's taken a visit this season, the host team has been at its best to show off for him. He was in Norman for the Sooners' 51-0 season-opening blowout, but that doesn't compare to what Alabama and Ole Miss were able to accomplish right in front of him over the past two weeks.

Compton-Nero was just in Tuscaloosa, as the Crimson Tide hammered South Carolina 49-18 to improve to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in SEC play. He posted about the visit afterward and noted that he plans to return.

Ole Miss made an even better impression with an unmatched atmosphere when the Rebels welcomed their former coach, Lane Kiffin, and LSU last week for a primetime matchup that drew ESPN College GameDay to Oxford. The Rebels got revenge on Kiffin with a 32-24 win that asserted them as title contenders.

That experience would blow away any college football fan, including Compton-Nero.

"Can’t thank the coaches enough for the belief I can be THAT GUY to keep what I got to see last night going. Never experienced anything like that," he wrote in a post.

Compton-Nero still has visits scheduled this season to SMU (Oct. 3), OU (Oct. 10), Texas Tech (Oct. 17), LSU (Nov. 7) and Notre Dame (Nov. 21). The Sooners have a massive advantage of hosting Compton-Nero twice, but that next visit is for the Red River Rivalry against No. 1 Texas in Dallas.

If the Sooners look the way they have in the past three outings, then that game could get ugly right in front of Compton-Nero. It would be the first time this year that he would witness a team he's there to watch underwhelm. Everyone else is gaining ground with their visits, but OU could actually lose ground during its last one.

He's been predicted to commit to OU since way back in July, but that full calendar of visits indicates Compton-Nero won't be making a decision anytime soon. It also feels further away since he hasn't publicly narrowed his list since announcing a top 15 in July. That spells trouble for the Sooners.

The Sooners can never lose the benefit of being his home-state team, but they aren't currently in the state to impress any other way, and that leaves a lot of time for someone else to charm Compton-Nero's while actually being able to dazzle.
