Forrest Brock, a redshirt junior quarterback for Temple, has a unique sense of humor when it comes to the competitive nature of football. Recently, he revealed to reporters that the initial snaps of Friday's scrimmage were decided by a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Despite this lighthearted approach, Brock is fully aware of the seriousness of his situation. He knows he has a legitimate opportunity to start in Temple's season opener against the Oklahoma Sooners on August 30 in Norman, Oklahoma.
Brock, originally from Topanga, California, and a former standout at Santa Monica Community College, understands exactly what Temple’s coaching staff is looking for in their starting quarterback. However, his limited game experience last season was far from ideal. In one of his only stretches of playing time for the Owls, things didn't go as planned.
Entering the game after a lackluster first half led by Quincy Patterson, which saw Temple trailing SMU 24-0, Brock had a challenging outing. He completed just 7 of his 15 passes for 60 yards and threw an interception, as Temple went on to suffer a crushing 55-0 defeat.
The upcoming matchup against Oklahoma will present an even tougher test. The atmosphere at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium is expected to be the most intense Temple will face all season. The Sooners are currently heavy favorites, listed as 42-point favorites over the Owls.
Oklahoma, coming off a 10-3 season that culminated in a 15th-place finish in the final AP Poll, is ranked 16th in the first Coaches Poll released on August 5 as they prepare for their inaugural season in the SEC.
Despite the odds and the expected noise level in Norman, Brock is confident that he will be ready if he gets the nod to start on August 30. He is focused on the opportunity ahead and is determined to prove himself on a stage that will undoubtedly test his composure and skills.
