Senior wide receiver Andrel Anthony was on fire last season. Before the Red River Rivalry matchup with the Horns, Anthony had 27 receptions for 429 yards (15.9 avg) and a touchdown. He was on pace to potentially lead the Sooners in catches and receiving yards.
Andrel is a big-time receiver. He is best when he matches up with corners in man coverage and catches short passes that he converts to significant gains. His bigger frame (6'1'', 185 pounds) allows him to position himself well in underneath routes.
It often goes unrecognized how well he did last season before his knee injury against Texas. People know and remember Nic Anderson, Jalil Farooq, etc., but the one guy who often gets forgotten is Andrel Anthony, and he may be the best receiver the Sooners have!
You have an absolutely stacked wide receiver lineup when you combine Anderson, Farooq, Deion Burks, and Anthony. Throw in Jayden Gibson, Jaquaize Pettaway, and Brenen Thompson, and you may have the best wide receiver corps in the SEC.
I see Andrel leading the Sooners in receptions, reception yards, and receiving average this year. I predict his total catch is somewhere north of 70 catches. I also predict a +1000-yard season with anywhere from 8 to 10 touchdowns. He is built for an air raid offense and will be a nightmare matchup for defensive coordinators because he is surrounded by other Sooner receiver playmakers.
Andrel Anthony should be a potential Biletnikoff preseason list candidate. He's that good. Until Texas last year, he was arguably one of the best receivers in the Big 12. This year, he will be one of the best receivers in the SEC.
Andrel Anthony has put the work in. He's overcome adversity and worked his tail off. I am confident he will see his reward during his senior season in Norman and find an even bigger reward in April's NFL Draft.
