The Oklahoma women's basketball team is still projected to be in friendly confines at the start of its NCAA Tournament run.
The most recent ESPN Bracketology released on Tuesday still has the Sooners as the 4 seed in the Birmingham Region. The top four seeds in each region get to host the first three rounds of the Women's NCAA Tournament, giving Norman three games without a play-in game.
In this projected scenario, OU would get No. 13 Grand Canyon first at Lloyd Noble Center. The other two teams are No. 5 Michigan State and No. 12 Ball State. The winner of each matchup would meet for a final game in Norman.
The Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games would be hosted in Birmingham, Alabama. Notre Dame has the top seed in the region that also includes No. 6 Vanderbilt from the SEC, and old Big 12 foes in No. 3 Kansas State and No. 7 Oklahoma State.
The SEC has 10 teams in the projected field of 10. The Big Ten has the most with 12.
The Sooners stayed exactly where they were in last week's bracketology despite suffering two losses last week. Both losses were to top-15 teams, though, in then-No. 7 LSU and then-No. 12 Kentucky.
The newest Associated Press Top 25 was also kind to the Sooners after a rough week.
With less than a month left in the regular season, the Sooners are in no real danger of missing the NCAA Tournament with a 16-6 record and No. 18 NET ranking. OU's schedule also eases up now after a stretch that featured three top-15 teams in four games, so more consistent wins should be on the way.
However, if the Sooners do slip up anymore, especially against lesser-quality opponents, they would likely lose hosting rights and be forced to be away from Norman for the entirety of the postseason.
