Mason James already calls Norman home, and the Oklahoma Sooners want to keep it that way.
James, the top wide receiver recruit in the state of Oklahoma, made another cut to his top college choices on Monday, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3. After announcing his top 10 in February, James' new top 5 includesd OU, Texas, Missouri, Kansas State and Washington.
Florida, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Michigan, Ole Miss and Arizona State did not make the cut this time, while Texas was added to the mix.
Mason James includes Sooners in top-5 college choices
James is from just down the road from Gaylord Family - Memorial Stadium at Norman North High School, where he's emerged as a consensus four-star prospect and top-3 overall recruit in the state. On3 and 247Sports rank James as the No. 2 overall recruit in Oklahoma, while Rivals has him at No. 3.
According to the 247Sports Composite. James, listed at 5-foot-11, is the 37th-best wide receiver in the 2026 class. 247Sports is the highest on James, ranking him as the No. 25 receiver in the class.
So far, James has official visits scheduled for this summer to all of his top-5 choices except for Kansas State. OU will be his last stop on June 20 during the Sooners' ChampU weekend. James will visit Missouri on May 30, Washington on June 6 and Texas on June 13.
The Sooners already have one receiver committed from the 2026 class in four-star prospect Daniel Odom from California. Top-20 and four-star wide receiver Jayden Warren also recently scheduled six official visits, including to OU.
Overall, the Sooners have six commits so far in their 2026 class. They picked up their first two defensive players last week after going months without a single commitment. The other four pledges are on the offensive side of the ball, including Odom, quarterback Jaden O'Neal, tight end Ryder Mix and offensive lineman Will Conroy.
