The Oklahoma Sooners were able to close things with top 2026 QB prospect Bowe Bentley, but they're suffering blown save after blown save while trying to land his future wide receivers.

Consensus four-star 2026 wide receiver Jordan Clay on Friday announced his commitment to Baylor after narrowing down his choices to the Bears, Colorado and OU. He also had offers to Texas, Arkansas, Arizona State, Miami, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and more.

Jordan Clay commits to Baylor over Sooners

According to the 247Sports Composite, Clay, listed at 6-foot-3, was the No. 15 receiver in the class and No. 16 overall player in Texas out of Madison High School in San Antonio. His last official visit of the summer was to Norman on June 20 during OU's ChampU BBQ, but apparently receivers coach Emmett Jones and Co. were unable to seal the deal.

Even before Clay's recent decision, the Sooners have continuously missed out on receivers from the class. Just two weeks ago, OU lost two four-star WR targets in the same day after becoming finalists for both players.

The toughest blow for the Sooners was losing a homegrown talent in Norman North High School's Mason James, who chose Washington over OU as a four-star receiver.

OU sent out a reported 32 offers to receivers from the 2026 class and 25 of those targets have already announced commitments. Yet, four-star Daniel Odom is the only WR the Sooners have landed so far, and even that's on thin ice.

Odom grew up playing with quarterback Jaden O'Neal in California, butO'Neal already flipped his commitment from OU to Florida State and there's fear O'Neal was a big reason why Odom chose the Sooners. Odom has also been entertaining other options and took reported official visits to Florida State and Washington this summer, as well as to OU.

Even if Odom keeps his pledge, the Sooners still need to land more receiving talent. Other than four-star Jayden Warren, every other offer OU has on the table is to a three-star prospect or less, and of the seven targets, four aren't even rated by 247Sports.

Clay's decision leaves the Sooners in a tough spot, now desperate for a late flip or needing to raid the Transfer Portal in the future.
