OU softball nearing SEC title
The Oklahoma softball team is just one win away from clinching the SEC regular-season championship in its first season in the conference.
To get there, besides getting atop the SEC standings, the No. 1 Sooners on Thursday night beat the No. 7 Florida Gators 6-5 in nine innings in Game 1 of the final series of the regular season.
Abby Dayton hit a bases-loaded single in the ninth inning to drive in Ella Parker from third and score what would be the game-winning run, while ace Sam Landry went the entire game with 144 pitches.
The Sooners and Gators will meet at 5 p.m. CT Friday on SEC Network. A win then will secure the SEC title and the 1-seed at next week's SEC Softball Tournament for OU.
Another top-25 series for baseball
The OU baseball team this weekend will host No. 23 Ole Miss at L. Dale Mitchell Park for another ranked SEC series.
The No. 21 Sooners enter the series at 30-13 after losing a series to then-No. 10 Georgia last weekend. The Rebels are 32-13 and won its series against then-No. 9 Vanderbilt last week.
Kyson Witherspoon will take the mound Friday night for the Sooners. Witherspoon is considered one of the top MLB prospects in college baseball and is a projected first-round pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Bedlam basketball set
The men's basketball edition of Bedlam reportedly has a date and location set.
Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports on Thursday reported that the Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys will meet on Saturday, Dec. 13, at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, home of the OKC Thunder.
The two rivals also played at Paycom Center last year, with the Sooners coming out on top.
