The Oklahoma Sooners have only a few more months left of ace Kyson Witherspoon before he's surely headed to the next level.
As the college baseball season progresses, more and more outlets continue to tout Witherspoon, a right-handed starting pitcher, as one of the top 2025 MLB Draft prospects.
Oklahoma Sooners' ace projected first-round pick
Most recently, Baseball America ranked Witherspoon as the No. 5 MLB Draft prospect in college baseball. Top prospect Jamie Arnold from Florida State and Witherspoon were the only pitchers listed in Baseball America's top-5. That ranking would also make Witherspoon the second-best prospect in the loaded SEC.

MLB.com this week also released its new batch of the top 150 MLB Draft prospects and listed Witherspoon at No. 8. He was the fourth college player on the list. The top 10 also included OU commit Eli Willits, a shortstop from Fort Cobb-Broxton High School in Oklahoma, at No. 4. Another Oklahoma native, Stillwater's Ethan Holliday, topped the list.
Those type of rankings have Witherspoon going early in the upcoming 2025 MLB Draft, which starts with the first round on July 13.
In its most recent mock draft this week, Bleacher Nation had Witherspoon going No. 12 overall in the first round to the Texas Rangers. He was the eighth college player selected in that mock draft.
MLB.com, according to his scouting profile, also predicts Witherspoon to be the first college right-handed pitcher selected.
"He has all of the ingredients to become a frontline starter," MLB.com wrote.
This season, Witherspoon has a 3.13 ERA and 8-2 record in 11 starts as a 6-foot-2 junior. His 92 strikeouts is the third-most in the SEC and 28 of those were strikeouts looking. He also has the second-most wins in the conference.
Witherspoon's fastball consistently hits the mid-90s and has topped at 99 mph. His slider has also touched 91 mph.
