NCAA Softball Championship is here

The quest for the Oklahoma Sooners' fifth national title in a row has begun.

The NCAA Softball Championship starts this weekend, and as usual, the road to Oklahoma City starts in Norman. The No. 2 overall seed Sooners will host Cal, Omaha and Boston University in the Norman Regional this weekend at Love's Field.

OU will start things against Boston U at 5 p.m. CT Friday on ESPNU. The winners of Game 1 and 2 will meet at 1 p.m. CT Saturday.

OU baseball lets Game 1 of Red River Rivalry slip away

With their ace on the mound, the Sooners squandered a late lead to drop Game 1 of the Red River Rivalry against the Texas Longhorns, 7-4.

OU led 3-1 headed to the seventh before Texas put up two to tie it up. The Longhorns then took the lead with a run in the eighth and exploded for three more in the ninth.

The Sooners had No. 3 Texas on the ropes after righty Kyson Witherspoon gave up just two runs in 6.2 innings. He also struck out eight batters. The dam then eventually broke once Witherspoon left the game.

Game 2 of the rivalry series will be at 6:30 p.m. CT Friday at L. Dale Mitchell Park and will be on SEC Network+.

NFL schedule loaded with potential Oklahoma QB matchups

With potentially five former Sooners starting at quarterback in the NFL, some of them are bound to meet on the field.

The NFL on Wednesday night announced the full schedule for the 2025-26 season, and it could include seven matchups between former OU quarterbacks who spent at least one season in Norman. Baker Mayfield, Jalen Hurts and Kyler Hurts are solidified starters. Caleb Williams is also the Chicago Bears' franchise QB, even if Sooner Nation doesn't really claim him. Spencer Rattler, another former transfer, will also compete for the starting job in New Orleans.

Mayfield leads the way with two possible meetings against Rattler, plus a matchup against Murray and Hurts.
