Alabama after commit and hometown product waiting for offer
Although the Sooners are diving in to assemble their 2027 recruiting class, there could still be movement to their 2026 group.
OU defensive end commit Matthew Nelson announced on Thursday via X that Alabama offered him, even though in June, Nelson posted that he shut down his recruitment. This would be different if a reporter broke the news of the offer, but it's worrisome that Nelson himself shared the news.
#AGTG After a great conversation with @CoachSanders14 . I'm blessed to receive an offer from @AlabamaFTBL. Roll Tide!@Coach_SandersQ @coachbschu@247recruiting @PrepRedzoneAR pic.twitter.com/opUawlSlfD

While the Sooners could lose a commit from the defensive line, they could also add one on the other side of the trenches. Offensive tackle Daniel McMorris, from Norman North High School down the road, just decommitted from Minnesota to re-open his recruitment, and on Saturday, he'll visit OU when the Sooners play Michigan. However, even as the highest-rated OT still available, McMorris is still waiting for an offer from his hometown team.
Nik Bonitto gets paid
Denver Broncos linebacker and former Sooner Nik Bonitto signed a massive four-year extension worth up to $120 million with $70 million guaranteed. The new deal made Bonitto the highest-paid non-QB in Broncos’ franchise history.
Bonitto earned the payday after notching his first Pro Bowl honor in his first season as a full-time starter in 2024. Last season, he had 48 tackles, 24 quarterback hits, 16 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and 13.5 sacks, which was the third-most in the NFL.
