McNeese transfer WR Jer'Michael Carter commits to Sooners
The Sooners have been in need of a receiver with some height. They have 6-foot-6 Ivan Carreon and 6-foot-5 Jayden Gibson, who was injured all of last season, but other than that, 11 of OU's other 15 receivers are listed right at 6-foot or shorter.
Carter will immediately become the third-tallest receiver on the Sooners' roster at 6-foot-4 and 184 pounds, providing another big target for new quarterback John Mateer.
Last season, Carter had 37 catches for 537 yards and three touchdowns for McNeese at the FCS level. McNeese had Carter labeled entering his junior season in 2025, but he appeared in only four games as a freshman in 2023 so could have three years of eligibility left.
Carter got a lot of attention once he entered the transfer portal. He took reported visits to OU, Baylor, Vanderbilt, Utah and Tennessee. On Wednesday, he unveiled what seemed like a final three of OU, Baylor and Vanderbilt.

The Sooners have now added five players from the transfer portal this spring during the first transfer cycle with new general manager Jim Nagy. Their additions started before the portal even opened with Stanford offensive lineman Jake Maikkula and Cal running back Jaydn Ott, who was the No. 1 running back available in the portal.
OU then landed former Utah State and Oklahoma State defensive tackle Siolaa Lolohea and UTSA kicker Tate Sandell. With 12 commits overall this offseason, the Sooners have the No. 12 transfer class in the country, according to 247Sports.
Now that they've gotten a big wide receiver, tight end is really the only need the Sooners have left to fill. However, time and options are running out to fix that issue.
