The Oklahoma men's basketball team got some rare good news during this time of the offseasn.

As most breaking news in college basketball right now revolves around a player entering the transfer portal, Jeff Nwankwo assured Sooner Nation he doesn't have plans of going anywhere.

Nwankwo on Monday, the day the transfer portal opened, posted, "Not going anywhere," which is not something a junior that got little playing time would need to announce just five years ago.

Nwankwo, a redshirt junior guard, missed the entire season because of an injury. He would be a giant presence up top, though, at 6-foot-6.

Before getting to OU, Nwankwo was a junior college All-American at Cowley College. He started his career at Tulane to play football but redshirted his only year there, then spent the next two seasons at Cowley College before transferring to OU last year.

Nwankwo was Kansas Jayhawk Community College conference Player of the Year for 2023-24 and earned a spot on the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I All-America First Team. He averaged 18.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, two assists and 1.9 steals a game that season.

He's originally from Putnam City North High School in Oklahoma.

The transfer portal just opened on Monday, and the Sooners have already lost two players Day 1 in forwards Luke Northweather and Yaya Keita.

With the portal additions, the Sooners will lose at least 11 players from this season's roster, assuming Jeremiah Fears enters the NBA Draft as a projected lottery pick. That number will also inflate the longer the portal is open, especially if head coach Porter Moser leaves for a different program.
