The transfer portal took one more.
Collin Kennedy of 247Sports reported Friday that Oklahoma safety Mykel Patterson-McDonald has entered the transfer portal with four years of eligibility left.
Considering the Sooners' transfer window closed Wednesday night and the university has 48 hours after that to officially enter a player into the transfer portal, this should be the last player the Sooners lose to the portal during the winter cycle. The portal will open again in April, though.
Patterson-McDonald, a defensive back, spent just one season in Norman after signing with the Sooners out of nearby Westmoore High School and never saw the field as a Sooner.
Rivals was the highest on Patterson-McDonald as a four-star recruit and ranked him as the No. 36 safety prospect in the 2024 class. Rivals also ranked him as the No. 2 recruit in the state. Meanwhile, 247Sports, ESPN and On3 all gave him three stars.
Patterson-McDonald also had offers from Houston, Indiana, Iowa State, Michigan State, Missouri, Tulsa, UNLV and Washington State out of high school before ultimately choosing the Sooners.
Patterson-McDonald committed to Oklahoma before Brent Venables hired Zac Alley as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, so Alley's departure to West Virginia likely did not play a role in Patterson-McDonald's late entry into the transfer portal.
The addition of Patterson-McDonald to the portal puts the Sooners at 27 losses to the transfer portal during this window. Seven players were from the defensive side of the ball, including four defensive backs.
Meanwhile, the Sooners have not added a defensive player from the portal yet.
