The Lokey Family is about to get better DNA, as in OU DNA.
All signs point toward 2028 four-star defensive lineman Logan Lokey soon committing to the Oklahoma Sooners, as Texas has overlooked the in-state product despite his father playing for the Longhorns. Texas still might enter the mix late, but it might already be too late at this point, and the Lowkeys' Texas legacy will end.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Lokey is the No. 27 defensive lineman in the 2028 class and No. 251 overall player. He's also the No. 31 prospect in the state of Texas out of Denton Guyer High School, where the Sooners already have a track record of getting talent from (we don't talk about Jackson Arnold, though).
Last season as just a sophomore playing the highest class of Texas high school football, Lokey recorded 21 tackles, six tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. That early production while also already being listed at 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds has led to an impressive list of offers.
Lokey has offers on the table from the likes of Arkansas, Kansas State, Miami, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Utah, Wisconsin and more. Texas is notably missing from the list despite the family ties.

Lokey's father, Derek, was a defensive lineman for the Longhorns in 2004-07 under Mack Brown. He was a three-star recruit from Denton Ryan High School before becoming a national champion at Texas in 2005 and eventually signing with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2008.
There are obviously great genetics there, so if Texas isn't going to take advantage of it, then the Sooners will. And general manager Jim Nagy is always ahead of the curve when it comes to jumping on talent. That was again the case with Lowkey, as OU was his first Power 4 offer in January. Even more programs will try to enter the race during Lowkey's junior season.
That early belief, plus proximity to home and Brent Venables' track record of developing elite defensive linemen, has the Sooners sitting comfortably to get Lowkey out of Texas and to Norman. Rivals gives OU a 94% chance of landing him, with TCU being the next closest at 2%. Rivals national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman also already logged a prediction for Lowkey to choose the Sooners.

It's still early in the process for the 2028 cycle and Lowkey has taken just one reported visit to Oklahoma, so a decision probably isn't around the corner. However, he'll get on campus for a game this season, which will be the perfect opportunity for the Sooners to seal the deal.
So far, the Sooners have just one 2028 commit in four-star quarterback Trey Tagliaferri, who flipped from Notre Dame. Based on multiple other predictions, though, Oklahoma's 2028 class should explode soon.
