Another early offer seems to be paying off for the Oklahoma Sooners.
Brendyn Jackson, a 2028 four-star wide receiver from Midlothian High School (TX), revealed his top 12 college choices via X on Sunday. The SEC-loaded list included Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Missouri, Baylor, Illinois, SMU, Kentucky, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Tennessee and TCU. Of the programs Jackson included, only Texas Tech beat the Sooners to the punch of discovering and offering him.

Brendyn Jackson another example of Jim Nagy's recruiting formula
The Sooners extended an offer to Jackson way back on March 8, 2025. At that time, his only other offers were from Texas Tech, Texas State, North Texas and Tulsa, as OU was just his second Power 4 opportunity. Soon after OU, the likes of Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Illinois, Florida and Wisconsin followed to also join the race.
Jackson was impressive enough as a freshman to already get the Sooners' attention, but his recruitment really took off after his sophomore campaign. Last season for Midlothian High School, Jackson caught 47 passes for 889 yards and nine touchdowns. He also rushed for 67 yards on 11 carries. That was an improvement from 706 receiving yards and seven TDs as a sophomore in 2024.
Listed as a 5-foot-11 speedster, Jackson is the type of receiver that has already found success in just one season of offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle's system with Isaiah Sategna III and Deion Burks. Trell Harris, a transfer from Virginia, could be another in 2026.
Despite adding Power 4 offers to his list and having a better season, though, Jackson's recruiting ranking actually continues to dip. Based on the 247Sports Composite, he's the No. 230 overall player in the 2028 class. He was at No. 110, over 100 spots better, last August, when he debuted in the rankings.
He's also the No. 36 wide receiver and No. 27 prospect in the state of Texas, per the 247Sports Composite.

The Sooners, though, especially with general manager Jim Nagy leading the way, have made it clear that recruiting ratings don't matter to them when deciding what talent to pursue. Nagy has assembled his own front-office staff since getting to Norman last February and has relied on his staff's own evaluations.
That self-reliance has led to the Sooners landing some gems because they offered before anyone else even noticed a prospect, only for that player to eventually emerge as a top recruit. That includes quarterback Bowe Bentley, who signed with the 2026 class, and 2027 running back commit Keldrid Ben. Both were under-recruited before committing to OU and ending up as top-10 prospects at their respective position. Now, Jackson could eventually join that growing list.
