Last summer, the Oklahoma Sooners had just one wide receiver committed to their 2026 recruiting class. Now, nearly a year later, Brent Venables & Co. are stuck in that same spot again in the blink of an eye.

First on Saturday, four-star wide receiver Demare Dezeurn decommitted from the Sooners with a commitment to in-state Cal looming. Then, just a few hours later, On3's Hayes Fawcett reported that three-star receiver Tra'Von Hall flipped from OU to Ole Miss. Both prospects made their decisions while on official visits to other schools this weekend.

The day of two recruiting blows at the same position leaves three-star Greydon Howell, from Broken Bow High School in Oklahoma, as the only receiver left at the moment in the Sooners' 2027 class. That will force general manager Jim Nagy back to the drawing board, but what he managed to pull off last year should ease the worry of OU fans.

Tra'Von Hall follows Demare Dezeurn in day of receiver losses for Sooners

Although Dezeurn was somewhat of an unexpected deficit, Hall's flip has felt inevitable for months now since his recruitment exploded. He had official visits scheduled for this summer to Florida, Ole Miss and OU. It's unknown if he'll still be in Norman next weekend like originally planned.

"I’m really just visiting other schools to see what fits me," Hall told SoonerScoop's Parker Thune in April. "I don’t really want to shut down nothing right now."

The Sooners had jumped on Hall early while he was still unrated or unranked by every major recruiting outlet. Now, though, according to the 247Sports Composite, Hall, listed at 6-foot and 180 pounds, is the No. 78 wide receiver in the 2027 class out of Central Tuscaloosa High School in Alabama, right down the road from the Crimson Tide.

Hall's list of offers eventually inflated to also include Alabama, Arkansas, LSU, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and more. The Sooners obviously couldn't fend off all the new intruders after Hall.

Heading into another massive weekend of official visitors next week, the Sooners now have two voids to fill at the same position. As of now, the only receiver OU plans to have on campus soon is three-star Jaiden Fields on June 19.

Last year, Nagy and the coaching staff managed to flip Jahsiear Rogers from Penn State and Jayden Petit from Wisconsin just weeks before the Early Signing Period to make the Sooners' 2026 receiver group even better than before the losses. That proven track record shouldn't have OU fans panicking even after what seems like a devastating day on the recruiting trail.
