There might never be a better set of offensive line recruits that Oklahoma OL coach Bill Bedenbaugh is assembling right now for the Sooners.
On3's Hayes Fawcett reported on Friday that 2027 four-star offensive tackle Brian Swanson included the Sooners in his final eight school options, and if he ultimately settles on OU, Swanson would be the Sooners' fifth addition to their future offensive front from the 2027 class (so far).
2027 OT Brian Swanson includes Sooners in top 8 as Bill Bedenbaugh thrives
According to Fawcett, Swanson has narrowed his choices down to OU, Texas, LSU, Ohio State, SMU, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Texas A&M. He also held offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Miami (FL), Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas Tech and more.
Things are looking good for the Sooners to land Swanson. He already has an official visit to Norman scheduled for May 29-31 during OU's Champ U BBQ recruiting event, and there should be plenty of other OU offensive line commits there to sway Swanson in the Sooners' favor. According to Rivals, Swanson also visited OU three times in 2024 and once last football season.
Swanson is listed as a tackle by recruiting services, but he also has experience playing guard and can play all across the line at the college level. That versatility makes him even more valuable and has been the type of offensive linemen OU general manager Jim Nagy has liked to target lately because of the value.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Swanson, listed at a massive 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, is the No. 20 offensive tackle in the 2027 class and No. 203 overall player. He's also the No. 32 prospect in the state of Texas out of South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas. However, 247Sports by itself has Swanson all the way up as the No. 16 player in Texas.
Based on the 247Sports Composite, Swanson would be third-highest rated offensive line commit for the Sooners after five-star offensive tackles from Oklahoma Cooper Hackett and Kaeden Penny. He'd be just ahead of three-star offensive tackle Luke Wilson, also from the DFW area, and three-star interior offensive lineman Tyson Ross. The Sooners are also predicted to land four-star interior offensive lineman Gus Corsair.
Adding an entire offensive line plus one full of elite talent would be absolutely ridiculous for the future of the Sooners, especially since OU fans have recently been frustrated with the offensive front's performance. However, if Bedenbaugh actually signs this loaded projected group, blocking shouldn't be an issue for the Sooners beyond 2027.
