The Oklahoma baseball team will keep rising in rankings until it gives a reason not to.
The Sooners moved up three spots to No. 13 in the latest D1 Baseball Top 25 that was released on Monday. OU also slid into the top 10 of Baseball America's rankings at No. 10.
OU is off to its best start since 2011 at 11-0 and best start ever under coach Skip Johnson. The Sooners are coming off a sweep against CSUN this past weekend at L. Dale Mitchell Park. OU outscored CSUN 22-4 in the three-game series.
The Sooners are one of eight undefeated college baseball teams left, joining Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida State, West Virginia and Murray State.
Tennessee is ranked the highest among the group at No. 2 behind 11-1 LSU. North Carolina is fourth, followed by Florida State at No. 6, then the Sooners. Alabama just debuted in the rankings at No. 23.
The Sooners were nowhere to be found in the D1 Baseball Top 25 only two weeks ago. But then they went 3-0 and won the Round Rock Classic championship while upsetting a pair of top-10 teams two weekends ago.
After the spectacular weekend, the Sooners shot up the rankings from unranked to No. 16 before climbing another three spots this week.
Oregon State and Virginia, which OU beat that weekend and are both 7-3, are still ranked above the Sooners at No. 8 and 9, respectively.
The Sooners could even leap another three spots and into the top 10 with another undefeated week that would include a top-25 victory.
OU will play No. 21 Dallas Baptist for a midweek matchup Tuesday night in Dallas. The Patriots are 8-3 and 6-0 at home so far.
The Sooners will then finish their week with a home weekend series against Sam Houston.
A 15-0 start, nearly matching that 2011 total, with another ranked victory should surely put the Sooners inside the top 10 and solidify Johnson's squad as a serious early national title contender.
