There's still a long ways to go, but the Oklahoma Sooners took a big step in landing what would be a top prize from the 2027 recruiting class.

Hayes Fawcett of Rivals reported over the weekend that 2027 consensus four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell narrowed his college options down to 10 and included OU, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Michigan, Missouri, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Indiana and Arizona State.

Sooners surge into top 10 for elite 2027 WR Quentin Burrell

Just to get to this point in Burrell's recruitment, the Sooners already beat out the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, in-state Illinois, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M and more, as just about everyone wanted Burrell's talent on their future roster.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Burrell, listed at 6-foot-3, is the No. 61 overall prospect in the 2027 class and No. 11 wide receiver. He's also the No. 4 player in the state of Illinois out of Mount Carmel High School in Chicago. With a .974 rating based on the 247Sports Composite, Burrell would be the third-highest rated commit in the Sooners' 2027 class that's already considered the best in the country.

Burrell is rated just above OU receiver commit Demare Dezeurn, who has a rating of .9581. Adding Burrell with Dezeurn, plus Tra'Von Hall, who's rising fast, would give the Sooners one of the best trio of receivers from the 2027 class.

Last season as a junior, Burrell caught 67 passes for 1,139 yards and 16 touchdowns as Mount Carmel won a state title. With still a season left, he's already broken his school's career records for receptions, receiving yards and receiving TDs. Burrell was also invited to the Polynesian Bowl.

Burrell's recruitment will really heat up this summer as he starts taking visits. He does not have an exact date reported yet for his visit to Oklahoma, but OU wide receivers coach Emmett Jones just took a trip to Chicago to visit Burrell in late January and Burrell noted he will be in Norman in March.
