It's guaranteed a former Oklahoma Sooner will become a Super Bowl champion on Feb. 9, and not many other college football fan bases can make that statement.
Eight former OU players are on the active rosters of the Kansas City Chiefs or Philadelphia Eagles for Super Bowl LIX. That's more representation from any other college football program in the country. And it's the third year in a row that the Sooners will have more players than anyone else compete in the Super Bowl.
A large part of that is because of the Chiefs' run of three straight Super Bowl appearances with back-to-back world championships. This season, six Sooners call Kansas City home. Two OU alumni are major contributors for the Eagles.
Kansas City Chiefs
- Hollywood Brown (WR)
- Creed Humphrey (OL)
- McKade Mettauer (OL)
- Wanya Morris (OL)
- Samaje Perine (RB)
- James Winchester (LS)
Samaje Perine helped boost the Chiefs back to the Super Bowl with a clutch first down in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday. It was the only time in the game he touched the ball, but still proved vital and showed the faith that the franchise has in OU's all-time leading rusher.
Pro Bowler Creed Humphrey is a staple at center on the Chiefs' offensive line that's responsible for protecting Patrick Mahomes. Hollywood Brown is also one of Mahomes' best deep threats at wide receiver.
And although at an overlooked position, James Winchester has already won three Super Bowl titles with the Chiefs.
Philadelphia Eagles
- Jalen Hurts (QB)
- Lane Johnson (OL)
- Grant Calcaterra (TE) **
Jalen Hurts is the Eagles' QB1 leading the offense. He had three rushing touchdowns and a passing TD in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday. With his third rushing score, Hurts broke Steve Young's record for most rushing TDs by a quarterback in the NFL Playoffs.
This will be the second time Hurts leads the Eagles into a Super Bowl. The Eagles narrowly lost to the Chiefs two years ago.
And while Hurts has thrived, Lane Johnson has been paving the way and protecting Hurts the whole time as a Pro Bowler on the offensive line.
Although the Sooners haven't been claiming him, tight end Grant Calcaterra also spent three seasons at OU before briefly retiring from football for a year then finishing his college career at SMU.
