Hopefully, Friday the 13th doesn’t bring bad luck to the Oklahoma Sooners in their race for Kamieon Compton-Nero, who’s the top recruit from the state in the 2028 class.
Compton-Nero, a two-way athlete expected to play defensive back for the Sooners, announced on Tuesday he has set a commitment date for Friday, Nov. 13. He also revealed a top 5 that included OU, Alabama, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, and SMU that he will make a decision from.

Sooners hoping Kamieon Compton-Nero becomes new top 2028 commit
Those five options were narrowed down from a group of 15 schools that Compton-Nero released in early August, right before embarking on a list of game-day visits. Since then, he has erased Oklahoma State, LSU, Missouri, Florida, Oregon, Michigan, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Kansas State, and Tennessee from the list of possible options for his service.
At that point, even with Compton-Nero still technically having 15 options on the table, him ultimately being a Sooner still felt inevitable. Multiple recruiting experts logged predictions for Compton-Nero to commit to OU even before he had a list of 15.
But a lot can change on the recruiting trail in the midst of unofficial visit season, especially with the Sooners struggling at 4-4. OU still had hope as a College Football Playoff contender the last time Compton-Nero had an update.
Compton-Nero visited Norman for the Sooners’ season-opening blowout of UTEP, and was then in Dallas for their upset of No. 1 Texas in the Red River Rivalry. The Sooners couldn't ask for better impressions this year.
OU is also the only program he’s made two visits to during this season. He’s made six visits total, which is still more than anyone else.
SEC rivals did all they could to persuade Compton-Nero over the last few months, though. He witnessed Alabama hammer South Carolina 49-18 in Tuscaloosa, and was also present when Ole Miss thumped LSU in Lane Kiffin’s return to Oxford.
Through all that, though, Rivals still gives it a 93.6% chance that Compton-Nero will commit to OU. The next closest is Ole Miss at 1.8%.
No matter what recruiting rankings you use, Compton-Nero would be the top commit in the Sooners’ growing 2028 class. According to the 247Sports Composite, he’s the No. 43 overall player and No. 2 athlete as a consensus four-star recruit.
He further proved his value this year after transferring across town from Rejoice Christian School to Owasso High School to play at the highest level of prep football in Oklahoma. This season, according to MaxPreps, he has recorded 22 tackles and an interception in seven games. Offensively, he converted from quarterback to wide receiver, catching 45 passes for 421 yards and four touchdowns.

Compton-Nero would join a group of five 2028 OU commits so far, including tight end Connor Arant, linebacker Jay Schell, quarterback Trey Tagliaferri, defensive lineman Logan Lokey, and wide receiver Colton Fitzgibbon, who will also play baseball at OU.
