Surrender cobras usually signify the end for the losing team, and the Boston Terriers were already showing defeat before they even got to Norman, Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Sooners will host the Norman Regional of the NCAA Softball Championship for the 14th year in a row as a 1-seed at Love's Field. The Sooners also earned the No. 2 overall seed behind Texas A&M, so will get to stay in the state of Oklahoma the entire postseason.
The Norman Regional field includes OU, No. 2 California Golden Bears, No. 3 Omaha Mavericks and No. 4 Boston Terriers. The first game on Friday will include Cal and Omaha before Boston has to deal with the Sooners.
Boston softball team’s body language said it all after brutal Oklahoma draw
When it was announced on Sunday that Boston was headed to Norman and would have to play the Sooners right off the bat, it was clear the Terriers want no part of the defending four-time national champions Sooners.
In just the few seconds ESPN flashed to the Boston softball team, players had their arms over their heads in surrender cobra formation and were gasping with their hands over their mouths.
Just look at those faces of disappointment.
At 39-17, Boston will make its third straight appearance in the NCAA Softball Championship. The Terriers have won the last three Patriot League titles and seven of the past 10.
This will actually be the Terriers' second consecutive trip to Norman for the postseason, but last year they avoided the Sooners and were ultimately eliminated by the Oregon Ducks.
The Sooners and Terriers will play at 5 p.m. CT Friday on ESPNU.
