Oklahoma football great Gerald McCoy isn't part of the Sooners' recruiting staff, but he might as well be.

After helping the Sooners already land one recruit recently, McCoy is using his X account once again to give recruiting pitches to one of his alma mater's top targets in 2028 five-star defensive lineman Kellan Hall after he received an offer from Red River rival Texas.

Kellan Hall gets Gerald McCoy's latest OU recruiting pitch

"Hey kid not to rain on your parade but wanted to point something out…….. Texas is a top 5 school in the country. Gods to honest truth I believe that. Anybody should be honored to go there but go ahead and let them down easy man," McCoy wrote. "Don’t play with their emotions……. You see how you announced you got an offer with an (O). That’s not on accident. It’s destiny!! Come on down to the 405 and be legendary!! Blessings kid!! BOOMER!!"

The Sooners have had an offer on the table to Hall since January 2025, over a year before Texas joined the race late. Hall had just finished his freshman season when OU already had enough belief in him to extend an offer.

Hall's list of offers has since exploded as a top overall prospect in his class. He also has offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and more. That early belief has the Sooners near the top of Hall's options, but they still need all the help they can get, including from McCoy, to beat out such a stacked list.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Hall, listed at 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds, is the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2028 class and No. 2 defensive lineman. He's also the best player in the state of Kentucky out of Christian Academy of Louisville.

McCoy knows firsthand how far a defensive tackle can go as a Sooner. He was a two-time First-Team All-American and All-Big 12 selection and Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year during his time on OU's defensive line in 2006-09. Like Hall, McCoy was also a five-star recruit.

He was then the third overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McCoy had a 12-year NFL career that included First-Team All-Pro honors in 2013 and six Pro Bowl selections.

With his playing days now over, when he's not talking as an analyst on TV, McCoy now regularly not only supports his alma mater, but does everything in his power to make it better. Less than two weeks ago, McCoy, an Oklahoma native himself, again used social media to recruit four-star cornerback Gabriel Osborne Jr. to stay in Oklahoma and be a Sooner. It paid off when Osborne committed to the Sooners this week as their highest-rated defensive commit in the 2027 class, based on 247Sports' rankings.

McCoy's recent recruitment of Hall wasn't the first and it won't be the last. And imagine being a high school recruit when a notification from a future NFL Hall of Famer pops up. That will catch any prospect's attention.
