With the way Brent Venables and Oklahoma have been able to recruit for the 2027 class, this almost seems like an unfair advantage. That's right, Sooners fans know what Venables and his staff have been able to get done, but now you have program legend Gerald McCoy getting in on things to help out the school he loves so much?

You better believe it. McCoy obviously has a strong passion for Oklahoma that's not going anywhere, which is why he's working to help Venables go after 4-star cornerback Gabriel Osborne Jr., who is a standout for nearby Mustang High. McCoy knows all about staying close to home to play for the Sooners, which is exactly what he wants to see Osborne do:

Come on, that's pretty awesome to see, as McCoy didn't mince words in his post directed Osborne's way. There's plenty of buzz around Osborne right now, as he recently revealed his list of finalists. Things are not going to be easy for Venables here, however, as Oklahoma is in a tight battle with Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan and Miami.

All five of those schools are working overtime to get Osborne on board, but with him being a playmaker in Mustang, it adds some extra pressure there for Venables to get things over the line. The driving time from Norman to Mustang is a little over 30 minutes. So, from our chair, there's no reason Osborne should play anywhere else other than OU.

That's easier said than done, as it will be on Venables to help get things over the line. Ohio State, Miami and others pushing hard complicates things, but the best of the best in Oklahoma should suit up for the Sooners and not think about making an impact for a different school. That's what McCoy is working to make Osborne and others realize.

Should McCoy help Oklahoma get things done here, it'd be a massive get for the Sooners' already loaded 2027 group. Per the 247Sports Composite, the 6-2, 180-pounder is ranked four stars, the No. 6 cornerback in the country and No. 40 playmaker nationally. On top of that, he's the No. 3 player in the state of Oklahoma - again, Venables can't let him go elsewhere.

So, will Osborne end up picking the Sooners? It's tough to tell at this point, but the next priority for Venables will be to get him on campus for an official visit soon. And when that does happen, the OU head man will need to pull out the big guns and roll out the red carpet for the youngster. Hey, get McCoy on campus too so he can make his pitch in person. That'd only help things for the Sooners in this major recruiting battle.
