Sooner Nation can breathe and sleep easy without worry of losing a favorite player to the transfer portal, at least for now.

The winter window for the transfer portal closed for Oklahoma on Wednesday night. That night was the last chance for players to submit paperwork, then the university has 48 hours to officially submit a player's name into the transfer portal.

Considering those timelines, the Sooners are now done losing talent to the transfer portal, at least until it opens again in April.

Overall, OU had 27 players enter the transfer portal since it officially opened on Dec. 9. That included 18 offensive players and nine on the defensive side of the ball.

Here's a look at everyone the Sooners lost, in order, to the transfer portal.

Yes, 27 players seems like a lot, but with a College Football 25 reference, most were "encouraged to transfer." OU coach Brent Venables admitted before the season even ended that he would have to essentially cut several players with looming roster limits around the corner, so most did not contribute much.

However, the Sooners still definitely still took some hits, especially losing six wide receivers who had all contributed at some point in their careers.

The biggest name to enter the transfer portal was Jackson Arnold, who started nine games at quarterback this season. That's no longer a loss, though, with John Mateer transferring from Washington State to take over at QB and Michael Hawkins Jr. looking like a solid young player to take over after Mateer moves on.

Defensively, losing defensive backs Kani Walker and Makari Vickers hurts the depth of OU's young secondary. Linebackers Lewis Carter and Dasan McCullough are also major blows at linebacker.

To counteract their losses, though, the Sooners have added 14 players from the transfer portal so far, and that number should continue to grow. That count included 10 offensive players, two on defense and a pair of specialists.

Obviously the biggest get was Mateer, who was ranked as the No. 1 available player in the transfer portal. The Sooners also helped replinish their receiver group around Mateer with four additions. They also bolstered the depth and experience of the offensive line with two new players.
