A familar name is after a recruit the Oklahoma Sooners already secured.
OU commit Will Conroy posted via X on Tuesday that new North Carolina football coach Bill Belichick recently visited him. And Conroy is certainly impressed by Belichick's resume as an NFL coaching legend.
Tremendous honor to have an opportunity to play for the greatest NFL coach of all-time! A very surreal and special moment. @Belichick_B @_thebillymiller @BlaylockAndrew pic.twitter.com/IF5OBNnAh0

Conroy is a consensus three-star offensive lineman from the 2026 class out of the prestigious IMG Academy in Florida. He's been committed to the Sooners since Dec. 16 as one of the first pledges OU landed from the 2026 class.
Rivals ranks Conroy as the No. 16 offensive guard in the 2026 class.
Belichick became UNC's new football coach only five days before Conroy's commitment so was a late addition to the recruiting battle. Conroy also already had other offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, Miami, Florida, Kentucky, Arizona State, Missouri and more.
The Tar Heels made a splash hire with Belichick to replace Mack Brown, another living relic. Belichick has never coached in college football, but is a coaching legend in the NFL. He won six Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots and with Tom Brady as his quarterback.
Belichick has already been making some noise on the recruiting trail thanks to his reputation. Brent Venables and the Sooners have reportedly already out-recruited the Tar Heels once this offseason, though.
UNC pursued quarterback John Mateer while he was in the transfer portal after leaving Washington State. Belichick even requested Brady's help, but ultimately, Baker Mayfield got Mateer, the No. 1 transfer prospect, to Oklahoma.
As for OU's 2026 recruiting class, the Sooners are up to four commitments after adding four-star receiver Daniel Odom on Tuesday. All of their commits so far are on the offensive side of the ball.
