Laine Jenkins, a 6’6” – 255-pound Junior college defensive end, announced his commitment to the Oklahoma football program on Tuesday afternoon. Jenkins comes to Norman after just one year at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas.

During his year at Butler, Jenkins saw action in six games totaling 8 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He signed with Butler C.C. in 2021 from Naperville, Illinois. Jenkins is an unranked JUCO prospect on all sites and was also unranked coming out of high school.

The only information I was able to gather for Jenkins was his highlight tape. In the tape, I saw a talented pass rusher. He’s a tall, lean EDGE rusher with a violent rip move and excellent closing speed. He displayed an affinity for getting around the edge on offensive tackles and closing with great speed. He looks like he will have the opportunity to impact the Sooners’ 2023 defense in definite pass-rush situations. I am curious to know how this kid ended up at a junior college. Athletically he was head and shoulders better than the players he was going up against.

Spring 23′ Highlights

Fall 22′ Highlights

Jenkins joins a defensive line that has added massive talent over the offseason. Jenkins marks the program’s fourth transfer addition in the Spring 2023 cycle, along with WR Brenen Thompson (Texas), LB Konnor Near (Ferris State), and C Troy Everett (App State).

Jenkins will compete for playing time on the EDGE along with R Mason-Thomas, Ethan Downs, Reggie Grimes, Rondell Bothroyd, and P.J. Adebawore. Jenkins looks like a kid who should be able to add some mass to his frame. At 6-foot-6, he’s plenty lean as it is. I look for him to be featured early in pass rush scenarios, depending on how he performs in Fall camp.

Welcome to Norman, Mr. Jenkins. We know a storm is coming with you.
