The transfers continue to stack up for the Oklahoma football program. Former Appalachian State offensive lineman Troy Everett announced his commitment to the Sooners on Friday, marking the third post-Spring portal transfer addition to the Team 129 roster.

Everett, originally from Daleville, Virginia, comes to Norman from App State, where he was named as a second-team Freshman All-American. Everett started App State’s first six contests and appeared in 10 of the team’s 12 games last season. The 6’3” – 285-pound offensive lineman saw most of his game action at the center position for App State last year. Everett was a 3-star prospect coming out of Lord Botetourt high school. During 2022, Everett totaled 478 offensive snaps and allowed one sack on 262 pass protection attempts. I went to Shawnee high school, so my math is sketchy, but that adds up to a 99.997 percent pass protection success rate.

Everett entered the Spring transfer portal on April 15 and chose the Sooners over a close battle with Virginia Tech. He is a proven pass protector and a good zone run blocker. He has a shorter stature than the starting Sooners offensive lineman; however, he displays excellent strength and agility for a center. It’s still being determined where he would fit into the starting rotation, but I expect him to compete at the guard position against McKade Mettauer this Fall.

The current Sooners offensive line is somewhat inexperienced, at least in Norman. Right tackle Tyler Guyton is the best football player on the team. Expected right guard McKade Mettauer was a starter last season for the Sooners. Center Andrew Raym is entering his final year in Norman and is backed up by last year’s Colorado player of the year Joshua Bates. Savion Byrd should occupy the left guard position without controversy. The left tackle will be Stanford transfer Walter Rouse or returner Jacob Sexton. That battle will be decided in camp. Freshman sensation Cayden Green is prepped and ready for playing time as well. So, it’ll be a dogfight for Everett to see immediate time, but he does provide some quality depth for Offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh’s front five.

Everett joins former Ferris State linebacker Konnor Near and former Texas receiver Brenen Thompson as the only post-Spring transfer portal additions to the Oklahoma football program. It is expected, and hoped, that the Sooners will receive a transfer commitment from former Colorado receiver Jordyn Tyson in the upcoming days, possibly over this weekend. Be sure and stay tuned to Stormin in Norman for all portal updates.

Welcome to Norman, Mr. Everett. We can’t wait to watch you put people on their backs. We know a storm is coming with you.
