It’s (almost) Football time again in Oklahoma!

It’s almost time, Sooner Nation. The Spring Game is just two days away, and the buzz building around the Oklahoma football program is enormous.

Before you make the trip to Norman, let’s give you a quick update on the scoring format of the Spring Game as well as some updated game day information to better enhance your experience in Norman on Saturday.

Times

The Spring Game is set to kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT in the Palace. However, there’s a ton to experience during the pregame festivities that I’m sure you’ll want to check out.

Kyler Murray’s Heisman trophy presentation will begin at 11:30 a.m. in Heisman Park, directly East of the stadium. This event is free, and it’s an absolute must-see. We were at Baker’s presentation last year, and it was epic. Although younger Sooner fans may find Sooner Heisman Trophy winners a regular occurrence, they’re extremely rare and worth celebrating to the maximum degree. Kyler is a Sooner legend and an even better person, so let’s show out in full force to check out his immortalization in Heisman Park. Obviously, Kyler will be on hand for the event, and I’m sure you might be able to grab a picture with the legend.

On Saturday, the OU Athletics Department will distribute free commemorative Kyler Murray and 2023 football schedule posters to the first 10,000 fans through the stadium gates.

The ‘Party at the Palace presented by Allstate’ will be held on the stadium’s Northside beginning at 10:30 a.m.This includes fantastic food trucks, games for kids, and other events for you to check out during the pregame. The best part about this event is that the National Champion OU Women’s Gymnastics team will be on hand to sign autographs here during the pregame festivities.

New Scoring Format

The scoring format for the game this year is different than years past. Saturday’s game will feature the offense (Red Team) vs. the defense (White Team) and a point-scoring system for each squad. Each quarter will be 12 minutes in duration. At the start of the fourth quarter, a target score will be generated by adding 12 points to the leading team’s score. If one of the teams reaches that target score before the fourth-quarter clock expires, that team wins. If either team does not reach the target score, the team leading when the clock expires wins. The Red Team will be coached by Bill Bedenbaugh and will man the west sideline. The White Team will be coached by Todd Bates and utilize the east sideline.

Halftime Heisman Presentation

Heisman legend Kyler Murray will also receive a complete halftime celebration to commemorate his historic 2018 Heisman Trophy campaign. Several former Sooners will be there to celebrate the accomplishment alongside him. Stick around at halftime to see this celebration. Once again, if it’s even remotely close to Baker’s last year, it’ll be worth the trip to Norman.

We can’t wait to see Sooner Nation show out and pack the Palace on Saturday. Get your tickets to the Spring game here and keep up with the Sooners’ Spring game analysis at Stormin’ in Norman.
