No. 9 — Spencer Rattler

Eleven starts in 2020, 6 Starts in 2021

Spencer Rattler had a complicated career in Crimson and Cream. He was a much-ballyhooed five-star recruit out of Arizona, who signed with the Sooners in the 2019 class. After redshirting in 2019, he was named the starter for the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

After a rough start that saw OU go 1-2, and after a couple of bad turnovers against Texas, he returned after a stint on the bench to help guide the Sooners to a quadruple-overtime win. After that, Rattler was very impressive for the rest of the 2020 season that saw OU win the Big 12 and chomp the Florida Gators in the Cotton Bowl. Things seemed to click for the redshirt-freshman, who used his cannon of an arm to punish defenses.

This led to Rattler receiving Heisman and NFL-draft hype going into 2021, and he responded by underachieving in a big way. He started the first six games before being benched against Texas and would not start again.

Rattler transferred to South Carolina, where he will be the Gamecocks’ starter for the upcoming 2022 season. The college football world will now get to see if he can get back to his 2020 form in the SEC.
